Celebrating International Women’s Day at Commission Factory

To celebrate International Women’s Day at Commission Factory, we look at the women that have influenced and impacted individuals in the team and in the industry.

IWD at Commission Factory

International Women’s Day 2021

International Women's Day is a global event celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Worldwide, groups come together to celebrate women's achievements or fight for women's equality.

Marked annually on March 8th, International Women's Day (IWD) is one of the most important days of the year to:

  • celebrate women's achievements
  • raise awareness about women's equality
  • lobby for accelerated gender parity
  • fundraise for female-focused charities

#ChoosetoChallenge

Ththeme for International Women’s Day 2021 is Choose to Challenge. A challenged world is an alert world and from challenge comes change. Whether in or outside the work place, we can all choose to challenge and call out gender bias and inequality. We can all choose to seek out and celebrate women's achievements and, collectively, we can all help create an inclusive world.

Celebrating Great Women

We spoke to the team and individuals within the digital industry and asked who the most influential women in their lives have been, how they have made a positive impact and why. We want to recognise these women today and encourage everyone to recognise them all year round. We hope this will inspire others to take a moment to celebrate the women in their life and give thanks for them. We also aim to get people thinking about how they will #ChooseToChallenge for #IWD2021 and beyond.

Sarah Neill from Mys Tyler“I met Anna Lozynski briefly in New York - I was living there, and she was visiting a mutual friend. We didn't know each other that well, but I was aware of her impressive credentials, and flattered when she stayed in touch and started sending notes of encouragement from afar as my career progressed.

When I moved back to Australia to build Mys Tyler, I began turning to her for advice, to which she was so receptive, helpful and supportive. She truly is a woman who cares about supporting and promoting those around her. She is now an advisor to our business, and watching her capture the attention and respect of the other notable names in the room is remarkable. Anna is indisputably an impressive person, but what has resonated with me so strongly is the positive energy she puts out into the world and her generosity of sharing thoughts, ideas and opportunities.’

Untitled design‘’Pip Davis from Collinson Group has been an inspirational and leading contributor to not just the growth of the business but a positive role model for women (and men) in many ways over many years. Her strength of character and positivity is always a source of encouragement for those that work with her – lot’s of laughs and honest feedback. Pip will be moderating a fireside conversation for Collinson's internal ‘’Thirst For Knowledge’’ session in March 2021 with an International Women’s Day theme: Choose to Challenge.”

Trent Olson from Commission Factory"My mum has always been a big influence in my life, but as I have grown older and started a family of my own this influence has only become stronger. I really admire her calmness and her practical advice has helped me more than once when making big decisions."

Jennifer Walton from Commission Factory"I would have to say an influential woman in my life would be one of my best friends, Gemma. When we were 23, Gemma was diagnosed with MS. This has never stopped her in anything she has wanted to achieve. Gemma has taught me to never let anything get in your way and to always try and see the silver lining in everything. Her strength and success are admirable and I appreciate how much she has made a positive impact on my life."

lucygood from Beanstalk Mums"Having grown-up without a mother from age seven, I have had very few female influences in my life. But the lady who stands-out above all others, who I admire and adore in equal measures, is my cousin Teresa (Teri, or now better known as “Auntie Teri”). Teri roles in my world have been varied and ever-changing, but they have always been full of love and so much laughter. Teri’s own story has been complex and challenging. Yet, her strength, kindness, empathy and selflessness through her work and her role as a mother to her two children, and anyone else who is lucky enough to be part of her world, is unwavering. They say you can’t choose your family, but I would have chosen Teri."

Lucy Good, Founder at Beanstalk Mums

Angus Waters from Commission Factory"Whilst there are numerous influential women in my life, I think my mum has been the most inspiring and impactful in a number of ways. She was able to maintain a career as a corporate lawyer for 35+ years, as well as have a family and raise a son. This is something I think many women in the corporate world today would understand the challenges of.

Her own aspirations and success throughout her career instilled a dedication towards my own goals and to have a "back yourself" mentality, despite what others may say or think. She has given me a wealth of respect for women in any industry that are able to achieve their goals, both personally and professionally. I'm immensely proud of the success in her career, and as a mother.

Because of her, I have a greater appreciation of the challenges that many women face today in their careers, and hope that I can be a positive part of the change to push for equitable career environments for women."`
